DHU Healthcare is a not-for-profit community interest company that strives to provide compassionate, high-quality care for their patients.

They form part of the NHS frontline, and lead urgent care within Emergency Departments, Urgent Treatment Centres, GP and Primary Care Surgeries and out in the wider communities. They offer a full range of both ‘in and out of hours’ clinical specialist services, provided by a diverse workforce made up of medical, nursing, allied health and support teams.

As part of their growth within the Derbyshire area, Avrenim was commissioned by Overbury PLC to install a 45.4kWp Solar PV System in their newly refurbished building at The Roundhouse in Derby, which is a two-storey building comprising of offices and meeting rooms, the main electrical services plant room is located within the Ground Floor Plant Room.

Challenge

Installing Solar PV to an existing tiled pitched roof that has some age to it, does have its challenges. Concrete tiles overtime become very brittle and fragile and are easily breakable when disturbed. For us as an installer, it is vital that once we install a PV system to an existing roof, its long term integrity and water ingress prevention is maintained for the life span of the PV system. On this particular install, we replaced 100+ tiles that was not part of the initial client requirement or design. Peace of mind for both ourselves and the end user is always top of our agenda.

Solution

Avrenim worked alongside Overbury, DHU Healthcare and their design team through a series of workshops and option appraisals to produce the optimum design for the end user.

The grid-connected PV array was mounted to the roof using a pitched roof rail and hook system, containing 112 x 405W solar panels. The system will generate circa 40,000kWh of clean electricity in its first year whilst mitigating 13 tonnes of carbon emissions per annum.

Results

A fully collaborative approach with Overbury, DHU Healthcare and key stakeholders at all stages of the works aided with the successful completion of the works which came within budget and on programme.

We commissioned Avrenim Energy Services to undertake a technical, operational, commercial and energy assessment of our combined heat & power plant operations at Warrington Hospital.

We were very pleased by their methodical approach, knowledge of our energy systems and detail included within their report. We would not hesitate in commissioning them again as consultants, engineers, project delivery and/or service partners.
